How it Works
The National STEM Collaboratorium is a website for coordinating communications between business and education partners. State-of-the-art virtual presence technology enables classrooms to connect with their business partners to receive real time-knowledge that is occurring in business. STEM Immersion™, an engaging approach to stimulating interest in engagement accompanies the conversations which occur. When populated with a network of participants, this framework results in an ecosystem where students are gaining and understanding of work, wherever they may be in the K-12 continuum.
Educators
The purpose of the STEM Collaboratorium for Educators is to collaborate with businesses and industry, to foster the culture of networking and using SME’s (Subject Matter Experts) to solve or support problems that relate to curriculum.
Additionally educators can access the database of experts that can include industry professionals to support the classroom in many ways. Professionals can provide oversight, consulting, in-classroom presentations, job shadowing, internship opportunities and more.
The STEM Collaboratorium also includes a message board for industry professionals and other academic experts to collaborate online through the community messaging system that accounts can log in to.
Business & Experts
There are many business professionals in the US today that have years of experience and expertise to share, but actually be asked to contribute that knowledge rarely happens. Most businesses and professionals understand the importance of education and building a solid foundation to learning best practices and applying them to everyday situations.
The STEM Collaboratorium is a multi-channel community that is online and on premise. Businesses can register for an account and be connected to local, regional or national experts across the United States that are directly related to or participate in STEM careers. When setting up the free account, you’ll be asked several key questions to what type of industry your expertise is in and also how you would like to participate with schools and students. When schools or classrooms have a need to reach out to STEM related businesses, they can search the database and filter and sort which experts from industry would best suit their curriculum to support the classroom learning.
Most engagements involve working with 1-2 classrooms at a time for either 1 period, 1 day or 1 project as an example. The schools participating are all managed by GT2 and the local school district which have participating classrooms.

For Students
For many students there are few options to excelling or advancing their education at a pace faster than the rest of their peers when going through K-12. The many benefits of the STEM Collaboratorium include a pathway and bridge for students that are looking to increase their knowledge and learn more than just English and Social Studies as a typical student in most schools. GT2 matches the school and classroom need with the right industry expert that can help students better understand how the real world operates and functions. For more challenging assignments, the business experts in the STEM Collaboratorium are available to assist with mentoring and guidance if students would like to engage through their teacher or supervisor. In some cases there may be job shadowing or internship possibilities for the right student in the right situation. These are just some of the ways in how the STEM Collaboratorium can work for students.
